Menlo Midweek: Don’t Be Deceived | Adam Hendrix
Wednesday Oct 12, 2022
Wednesday Oct 12, 2022
This week we talk to our speaker Adam Hendrix about plants, grandmas and Colossians! In this week's sermon, we explored how we can live in a world in which we are not surprised by difficulty and pain, but still see the bigger picture of God’s redemptive work. We dove into Paul's writings in Colossians and will talk about how we can engage in the world with real humility and compassion. We also took on the big questions: What changes in us when we are following Jesus and how does that actually work?

There are over 51 million YouTube channels, over 2 million podcasts, and over 1 billion TikTok videos per day. With this endless stream of philosophies, opinions, and ideologies, each one has the power to lead us astray and deceive us. Join us for this sermon, when we explore Paul's warning about being taken captive by empty philosophies and opinions. What is Paul’s answer to not being deceived? You need to sink your roots deep and be rooted in Christ—getting your nourishment and stability from him. Spiritual practices are the key to root yourself in Christ. This week, continue to use our Bible study of Colossians to connect to Jesus at menlo.church/colossians. Also, consider replacing one piece of entertainment or information with another spiritual practice like prayer or meditation.

This week we’re talking about the suffering we choose. Why would someone choose suffering? Parents do so every day for their children. As do business owners who care deeply for their employees and customers. And Paul chose suffering for the sake of the church. We’ll explore what it means if we desire to live a life of love for others. And we'll ask how Jesus showed us the way to do this. Join us to explore these questions as we study Colossians and discover what an other-centered life looks like and how we can be empowered to live this way.

Colossians: Following the ”Real” Jesus | Scott Palmbush
Sunday Sep 25, 2022
Sunday Sep 25, 2022
This week, through the words of the apostle Paul to the Colossians, we explore who Jesus was. Our tendency is to reduce Jesus to an idol. But that Jesus will never deliver us from sin and death or transform us. This message will encourage us to abandon our false images and embrace the real Jesus. Look at the Scriptures that describe Jesus and identify ways that you treat Jesus as your servant rather than your Lord. How can you more deeply submit to the “real” Jesus wherever he leads.
