Hearing God: Get Help | Cheryl Fletcher
Sunday Jan 22, 2023
Sunday Jan 22, 2023
When it comes to hearing God, we all sometimes need help. In this sermon we discuss finding that support and guidance. We consider who can help us and what that help looks like. As a bonus, we talk about how you can learn to be a person who helps others hear God.
Formation practices are our training ground for Christlikeness. The formation practice during our Hearing God sermon series is Listening Prayer. Listening Prayer can take many forms and be done privately and communally. Head to http://menlo.church/hearinggod each week for the sermon video, a Life Group discussion guide, and a formation practice resource.

Hearing God: Listening Through Scripture | Scott Palmbush
Sunday Jan 15, 2023
Sunday Jan 15, 2023
God reveals himself uniquely throughout the pages of the Bible. The history, stories, poems, letters, and prophecies we find in it provide a picture of who God is, what his character is like, and what he wants for us. The Bible also gives us an understanding of who we are as humans and of what really matters in our lives. If we read it prayerfully, expectantly, and regularly we can find comfort, hope, direction, and transformation in its pages. Through meditation and intentional listening, the words on the page can become food for our souls.
This week, create a plan to read Scripture on a regular basis. Practice Lectio Divina. Read the text meditatively to enable you to encounter God’s words and experience his presence.

Practice makes people who they are. In this sermon we’ll look at a somewhat obscure Old Testament story and use it as an opportunity to pause and reflect on how the events of the last year have affected us. How have we changed? How have we grown? Who have we become? Plus, we’ll look ahead and consider how we might position ourselves to become who we were made to be: people who mirror God.
Begin each day this week by asking God how He might want you to meet with Him this year.

God’s grace can often be found in the ordinary, everyday activities of our life. But how can we make sure not to miss it—or resist it? This week we'll see how God followed a group of people and revealed himself to them through their vocation. For us, what might it mean for God to suddenly appear in our routine, daily living? How would we respond?
This Christmas you are invited to a life-changing but difficult task: To wait. To go slow. The coming of Jesus, the Messiah King, came after 400 years of waiting and anticipation. God is not hurried. Every moment he whispers, “I am with you.” We have to slow down to hear that whisper. The resources at http://menlo.church/advent will help you slow down and set your mind and heart upon Jesus during this busy, hurried holiday season.
